Hugo Garcia, Managing Partner and Co-founder of Argovia Capital, has worked since 1993 in the following activities:

  • M&A advisory.
  • Investment Banking.
  • Company valuation (as going-concern).
  • General Corporate Finance advisory.

Through the aforementioned activities he has supported: Mexican and foreign companies of different lines of business and their shareholders, and domestic and overseas government institutions.

For over 10 years Hugo worked in the M&A and financial advisory areas of KPMG Corporate Finance, both in Mexico City and London. He was a Director in those areas. In recognition of the quality of his work, Hugo received KPMG’s Client Care award on different occasions. He led, executed or coordinated projects of the following natures:

  • Mergers and Acquisitions.
  • Company valuations.
  • Equity and debt (banking and bond) raising for companies and infrastructure projects (Project Finance/PPP).

He participated as well in projects of a varied Corporate Finance nature, including:

  • Buy-sell and valuation of banking non-performing loan portfolios.
  • Estimate of companies optimal indebtedness levels.
  • Due diligence of companies or loan portfolios to be sold or acquired.
  • Financial restructuring of corporations with high indebtedness.
  • Design of systems to monitor banks’ financial health.
  • Liquidation of a bankrupt bank.

Additionally, during several years he was an Equity Analyst at HSBC and Interacciones (a leading Mexican stock brokerage-investment banking firm). He was Head of Equity Research. As an Equity Analyst, Hugo performed the following activities:

  • Valuation of several companies.
  • Marketing of the investment in those companies in Mexico and abroad.
  • Financial analysis, forecasting and modeling of companies.
  • IPOs of different corporations.

As an Equity Analyst he was based both in Mexico City and New York City.

He was as well Corporate Finance Director at Mexican mobile telephony company Unefon. There he participated in the company’s IPO process, in M&A projects and in the analysis of investment projects.

Hugo has been a frequent columnist, speaker and lecturer on Mergers and Acquisitions, company valuation and corporate finance at different domestic and foreign media and institutions. These fora include:

  • The Economist. Conference on Latin America Private Equity. U.S.
  • Newspaper “El Economista”.
  • Business Magazine “Dirección Estratégica (ITAM)”.
  • BANOBRAS (Mexican government development bank).
  • Industria Nacional de Autopartes, A.C. (INA- Mexican Autopart Industry Association).
  • Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM).
  • Universidad Anáhuac.

Additionally, he has been interviewed on finance matters by different media, including newspaper “Reforma” and radio broadcaster “Imagen”.

Our Managing Partner holds an MBA degree from INSEAD (Fontainebleau, France) and a B. Sc. degree in Applied Mathematics from ITAM (Mexico City).

He has taken several Business Valuation courses administered by the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) in the U.S.
